Position Summary
The Access Control & Video Surveillance Service Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, maintaining, upgrading, and commissioning electronic security systems in multifamily and commercial environments.
This is primarily a service-focused role. The ideal candidate is comfortable responding to customer issues, diagnosing problems, performing repairs, and completing system upgrades. The technician will also support installations and project work as needed.
The right candidate is equally comfortable working with customers, door hardware, access control systems, cameras, intercoms, and low-voltage infrastructure.
ResponsibilitiesService & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair access control systems
- Troubleshoot video surveillance systems and network-connected devices
- Service intercom and visitor entry systems
- Troubleshoot door hardware and locking devices
- Identify root causes and implement corrective solutions
- Perform preventative maintenance and system inspections
- Communicate findings and recommendations to customers and office staff
System Upgrades & Deployment
Install, replace, configure, and commission:
- Access control panels and controllers
- Card readers and credentials
- Electric strikes
- Magnetic locks
- Request-to-exit devices
- Door position switches
- Power supplies
- Network video recorders
- Surveillance cameras
- Video intercom systems
- Telephone entry systems
- Wireless locking systems
- Network-connected security devices
Wireless Locks & Door Hardware
Install, service, and adjust:
- Cylindrical locksets
- Mortise locksets
- Electrified trim
- Interconnected locksets
- Deadbolts.
Preferred experience with:
- Yale
- ASSA ABLOY
- Salto
- Dormakaba
- Sargent
Cabling & Infrastructure
Install, repair, and support:
- Cat5e cabling
- Cat6 cabling
- Cat6A cabling
- Fiber optic cabling
- Access control cabling
- Camera cabling
- Intercom cabling
Work within:
- Existing occupied buildings
- Apartment communities
- Commercial facilities
- New construction and renovation projects
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete detailed service notes
- Document work performed with photos
- Label cables and installed equipment
- Track labor and materials using Simpro Mobile
- Maintain accurate records of completed work
- Submit daily job updates and closeout documentation
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of low-voltage security industry experience
- Experience servicing and troubleshooting access control systems
- Experience servicing and troubleshooting video surveillance systems
- Experience with intercom or telephone entry systems
- Experience with electrified locking hardware and door hardware integration
- Ability to terminate and test low-voltage cabling
- Basic understanding of IP networking concepts
- Ability to read floor plans and device layouts
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in multifamily residential communities
- Experience with cloud-based access control platforms
- Experience with wireless lock systems
- Experience reading door schedules and hardware schedules
- Experience coordinating with property managers and maintenance personnel
- Ability to lead small projects and mentor junior technicians
