Network Cabling Services (NCS) is seeking an experienced Fiber Technician to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic cabling in commercial, industrial, and data center environments.
Experience installing anaerobic fiber optic connectors is required. Candidates must be comfortable working with both single-mode and multi-mode fiber and possess a strong understanding of fiber optic installation standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber optic cabling in commercial and industrial environments.
- Install anaerobic fiber optic connectors with precision and in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Perform fiber optic terminations using single-mode and multi-mode fiber.
- Install, dress, label, and route fiber optic cables.
- Conduct fiber optic testing using OTDRs, power meters, light sources, and visual fault locators (VFL).
- Read and interpret construction drawings, fiber layouts, and cable schedules.
- Install fiber patch panels, splice enclosures, fiber trays, and rack-mounted hardware.
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged fiber optic systems.
- Document test results and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Ensure all installations meet customer specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, supervisors, and customers throughout project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial fiber optic installation experience.
- Required experience installing anaerobic fiber optic connectors.
- Experience with:
- Single-mode fiber
- Multi-mode fiber
- Fiber terminations
- Fiber testing and troubleshooting
- Experience using:
- OTDR
- Optical Power Meter
- Visual Fault Locator (VFL)
- Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, data centers, manufacturing plants, or mission-critical environments.
- Experience with fiber splicing (fusion or mechanical).
- Experience installing fiber enclosures, LIUs, and patch panels.
- Manufacturer certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from lifts when required.
- Ability to work in construction environments, ceilings, and confined spaces.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work for extended periods.
Pay: $28.00 - $32.00 per hour
