Trailhead CPA is looking for an experienced CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) who is ready for more than simply preparing tax returns. We are looking for someone who can build relationships with clients, provide sound tax and accounting guidance, and take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our Emmetsburg office.

What You'll Do
Client Relationships & Advisory
- Meet directly with individual and business clients
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with clients
- Serve as a primary point of contact for tax and accounting questions
- Explain tax and financial matters in a practical, understandable way
- Identify opportunities to proactively help clients rather than simply responding to requests
- Work with business owners on tax planning and year-round financial decisions
Tax & Accounting
- Prepare and review individual, business, partnership, and corporate income tax returns
- Provide year-round tax planning and advisory services
- Review financial statements and accounting information
- Research tax issues and recommend practical solutions
- Help clients understand how tax decisions affect their businesses and personal finances
- Coordinate with other Trailhead CPA professionals when specialized expertise is needed
Take Ownership of the Office
- Take an active leadership role in the day-to-day operation of the Emmetsburg office
- Manage client relationships, deadlines, workflow, and priorities
- Work with administrative and accounting staff to make sure client work moves efficiently
- Recognize what needs to be done and take action without waiting for someone else to provide direction
- Help develop and improve office processes
- Maintain high standards for client service and work quality
- Communicate with firm leadership about client needs, staffing, opportunities, and issues
Who We're Looking For
We are specifically looking for someone with enough public accounting and tax experience to confidently meet with clients and manage relationships independently.
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold an active CPA license or Enrolled Agent designation
- Have meaningful experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns
- Be comfortable meeting independently with business owners and individual clients
- Have strong tax knowledge and the judgment to know when additional research or consultation is needed
- Communicate well with clients who may not have an accounting or tax background
- Be organized and capable of managing multiple clients, projects, and deadlines
- Have a strong sense of ownership and personal accountability
- Be willing to make decisions and solve problems
- Look for opportunities to improve the office rather than waiting to be told what to do
- Enjoy working as part of a team while being capable of operating independently
Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
