POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports retail sales, market outreach, customer service, and daily shop operations. Key responsibilities include managing large orders and wholesale opportunities, growing market, wholesale and online sales, booking pop-ups, and finding community markets where Treetops can sell and build relationships. It also covers product development support and shop administration — fulfilling and packing orders, managing Shopify, tracking inventory, labeling products, answering retail emails, and processing invoices — plus working markets, helping customers in the shop, assisting with retail social media, and taking on special projects that keep the retail enterprise running smoothly.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
STORE OPERATIONS
- Respond to retail customer service inquiries and requests
- Keep all products on Shopify updated with correct variants, photos, quantity counts, and additional information for customers to understand and decide on a purchase
- Keep the retail and makerspace clean, order stock, and ensure space is working well for all collective members
- Support Retail & Sewing Manager with special projects on weekly basis
- Accomplish timely fulfillment of online orders.
- Offer world-class hospitality and customer service to store guests and clients.
MARKETS
- Research, identify, and book pop-up and market opportunities across the Grand Rapids community, including festivals, seasonal markets, and vendor fairs
- Build relationships with partner organizations, businesses, churches, and schools to host or co-host Treetops pop-ups and group selling events.
- Coordinate all logistics for off-site sales — booth registration, packing lists, scheduling staff, inventory, transportation, setup, and teardown — while representing Treetops' mission and makers to customers
SALES
- Identify opportunities for sales efforts/events, provide recommendations, and pursue relationships with wholesale customers and on sites, such as Faire, Etsy, and similar.
- Pursue and manage partnerships for large orders with focused organizations or groups.
- Grow online shop revenue with the goal of hitting $3500-$5,000 of online revenue a month through strategic sales and marketing.
- Create a sales plan and identify direct sales opportunities for high selling products and create pathways for direct sales for new product lines as they develop.
- Work collaboratively with other Engagement team members on development and marketing initiatives, including sales campaigns and product launches, and consult with Communications Manager on regular shop newsletters and social media content.
QUALIFICATIONS
- ***Sales experience, Strong customer service and communication skills
- Experience in retail, sales, markets, pop-ups, or small business operations
- Comfort using online sales and admin platforms such as Shopify, Etsy, Faire, or similar systems
- Experience coordinating community events or vendor markets
- Comfort with large orders, wholesale, and community-based selling
- The ideal candidate must be highly self-directed, flexible, organized, proactive, reliable, and solution-oriented.
- Be passionate for our mission, including ethics and sustainability in product development
- Demonstrates professional demeanor in behavior; appearance; and through oral, written, and electronic communication
- Possess competence in cross-cultural communication and sensitivity
- Basic social media experience
- Have an understanding of the importance of relationship building and creativity
- Physical Requirements: Stand for long periods of time, walk long distances, be in a variety of weather conditions, reliable transportation, and flexibility. Additionally, must be able to lift up to 20 -30 lbs and perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
