Production Assistant / Saw Operator
Job Type: Full-Time
Pay: $20.00–$24.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM
Location: Hutchinson Correctional Facility – Hutchinson, KS

Basic Industries is a growing company focused on safety, efficiency, and quality workmanship. We are currently seeking a dependable and motivated Production Assistant / Saw Operator to join our team.
This is a hands-on role with a wide variety of responsibilities involving wood cutting, finishing, material handling, and general shop operations. The ideal candidate is adaptable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are exactly the same.
Primary Responsibilities
- Safely set up, operate, and monitor saws and other woodworking equipment
- Cut, finish, and prepare wood products according to production specifications
- Inspect materials and remove non-conforming products to maintain quality standards
- Band, package, and prepare finished goods for shipment
- Operate pallet jacks, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment safely
- Load and unload trucks and trailers efficiently
- Perform basic machine troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and clear minor jams
- Assist with minor equipment and machine repairs as needed
- Maintain production efficiency goals of 80% or higher
- Support daily shop operations with miscellaneous tasks, including:
- Running errands for parts or supplies
- Opening and closing the shop when needed
- Assisting the operations team with additional tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Ability to pass a background check (position is located inside a correctional facility)
- Ability to safely lift up to 100 lbs
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Forklift experience is a plus
