The company designs and manufactures high-reliability digital fault recorders, protective relays, and power system monitoring solutions used by electric utilities worldwide to protect, monitor, and stabilize the electrical power grid.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Firmware Engineer to join our R&D team in Houston. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing embedded firmware for mission-critical power system products. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance firmware solutions while driving innovation and maintaining software quality throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for high-performance electronic products.
- Develop software components, device drivers, and embedded frameworks.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Hardware Engineering, and QA teams to deliver new features and products.
- Optimize existing firmware for performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Perform code reviews, unit testing, debugging, and validation before product release.
- Troubleshoot firmware issues reported during testing or by customers.
- Support firmware architecture, version control, software releases, and technical documentation.
- Contribute to verification and validation planning.
- Promote coding standards, best practices, and continuous process improvement.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- 10–15 years of hands-on embedded firmware development experience.
- Strong programming skills in Embedded C, C++, RTOS, and microprocessor-based systems.
- Experience developing firmware in QNX and Linux environments.
- Strong understanding of software architecture and embedded system design.
- Experience with memory technologies including NAND, NOR, and DDR4.
- Knowledge of communication protocols such as UART, I²C, SPI, Ethernet, and multithreaded applications.
- Proficiency with debugging tools, IDEs, and version control systems such as Git and SVN.
- Excellent debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Industry Experience
Experience developing embedded firmware for:
- Power system protection equipment
- Protective relays
- Digital fault recorders
- Industrial electronics
- Electrical utility or energy sector products
Candidate Requirements
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder.
- Willing to relocate to Houston, Texas.
- Comfortable working onsite five days per week.
- Prior experience in the power or energy industry is required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $120,000–$150,000 annually
- Insurance Coverage: $12,000
- 401(k): 3% company contribution
