Responsibilities
- Manage incoming and outgoing patient referrals efficiently and accurately.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to referral processing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of managed care plans and referral requirements.
- Utilize medical coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 for accurate documentation.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations when handling patient information.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their referral status and next steps.
- Collaborate with medical staff to gather necessary documentation for referrals.
- Maintain organized medical records and ensure proper coding for billing purposes.
- Assist in resolving any issues related to referrals or insurance claims as needed.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office or dental office setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of managed care processes and insurance verification procedures.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records management, and coding practices (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10).
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients and healthcare providers.
- Proficient in using office software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
