JOB DESCRIPTION - PERSONAL CARE ATTENDANT - Sunday morning shift - 5 hours
Description: Personal Care Attendants provide essential services to individuals in their own homes and communities who require assistance with activities of daily living due to old age, sickness, disability, or other conditions. In addition to personal care, duties may include housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, companionship, and respite care. The Personal Care Attendant is responsible for delivering all services in a professional, caring, and respectful manner, in accordance with Friendly Care LLC policies and industry standards.
Responsibilities/Activities: The following is an outline of duties and responsibilities. This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented with additional duties assigned by the Supervisor as needed.
- Activities of Daily Living & Personal Care:
- Assisting with personal hygiene, including bathing, mouth care, nail care, hair care, and skin care.
- Assisting with dressing, ambulation, and exercise.
- Assisting with transferring, positioning, and toileting.
- Providing assistance with feeding.
- Reminding clients to take medications and monitoring vital signs or blood pressure readings as part of the care plan, in a non-medical capacity.
- Home Management & Meal Preparation:
- Planning and preparing meals, including following any written, special diet plans provided by a Physician and detailed in the care plan.
- Performing routine housekeeping activities, such as making beds, dusting, vacuuming, washing floors, and cleaning the kitchen and bathroom.
- Doing laundry.
- Client Support & Companionship:
- Providing companionship, social interaction, and emotional reassurance.
- Escorting the client to medical facilities, errands, shopping, and outings as specified in the care plan.
- Assisting the client with communication by writing or typing correspondence or researching information.
- Performing/assisting with essential shopping and errands, which may include handling the client’s money in strict accordance with the care plan and Friendly Care LLC policy.
- Observation & Communication:
- Ensuring the client’s safety and security by supervising the home environment and reporting unsafe conditions to the Supervisor.
- Observing the client and reporting any changes in behavior, physical condition, cognitive state, or living arrangements to the Supervisor.
- Completing and maintaining accurate records of daily activities, observations, and direct hours of service.
- Professional Development:
- Participating on the Care Team by providing input and making suggestions.
- Attending all orientation, in-service training sessions, and staff meetings as required.
- Developing and maintaining constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
Required Knowledge:
- Principles of personal care and home management skills.
- The English language, both written and oral.
- Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to provide emergency first aid and CPR.
- Basic clerical procedures for maintaining records and completing forms.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- The ability to competently and respectfully assist clients with their activities of daily living.
- The ability to observe, listen, and understand instructions from relevant sources.
- The ability to communicate information clearly, both orally and in writing, so others understand.
- The ability to establish and maintain harmonious, constructive, and cooperative relationships with clients, their families, and co-workers.
- The ability to apply reason, logic, and problem-solving skills to identify and address client needs.
- The ability to monitor and assess oneself and the effectiveness of services provided.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Physical: The ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift, push, or pull objects and people as required by the client’s care plan. The ability to talk, hear, and see to effectively communicate with clients and staff.
- Mental: The ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions, and to manage job-related stress while maintaining composure and a positive attitude.
- Mobility: Must possess a current driver’s license, proper vehicle insurance coverage, and the physical and mental ability to safely operate a vehicle.
Qualifications/Education:
- Certification: Certification as a Personal Care Attendant is required.
- Experience: Related experience is preferred.
- Training: All required pre-employment training, including First Aid and CPR, must be completed successfully.
