EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
In this trainee position, you will develop the skills needed to operate equipment and support maintenance work on highways and bridges. It will provide you with hands-on training, safety instruction, and experience with essential tools and procedures. As a PennDOT CDL Operator Trainee, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Training: Learn to operate heavy trucks, loaders, and required construction equipmentTool Use: Use motorized and non-motorized hand tools to complete maintenance tasksSafety Awareness: Follow safety procedures, observe hazards, and report incidents immediatelyField Tasks: Assist with manual labor such as cutting brush, cleaning culverts, and repairing roadway featuresMaintenance Checks: Perform pre and post operation inspections and make basic field adjustmentsWorkplace Readiness: Develop familiarity with work rules, reporting procedures, and environmental requirementsWork Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employmentWork hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.Work schedule is subject to change based on weather/seasonTelework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,526 (before taxes).
