After School Musical Theatre Teacher
Compensation: $20-25/hour
Schedule: M-F/1PM-6PM (flexible schedule)
Hours: 5-20 hours
SUMMARY
We are currently hiring for the 2026–2027 school year.
Active Learning is seeking enthusiastic and creative Musical Theatre Teachers to support students in grades TK–6 within after school programs. Our teachers create engaging, structured, and supportive environments where students can explore performance, build confidence, and develop a love for the arts.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about theatre, singing, and storytelling, and who enjoy working with youth. Teachers will guide students through the process of preparing for a live performance, incorporating acting, movement, and vocal expression.
We strongly encourage candidates with backgrounds in theatre, vocal performance, directing, or stage production to bring their creativity and expertise into the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
■ Lead and facilitate musical theatre classes for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade
■ Develop and implement lesson plans that incorporate acting, singing, and basic choreography
■ Prepare students for a culminating performance or showcase
■ Teach stage presence, confidence, and performance skills in a supportive environment
■ Select or assist in selecting age-appropriate scripts, songs, and performance material
■ Organize and lead rehearsals, ensuring students are prepared and confident for performance
■ Manage a group of up to 20 students using clear expectations and effective behavior management strategies
■ Create a structured, inclusive, and engaging class environment
■ Adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying experience levels
■ Build positive relationships with students to support their social-emotional development
■ Communicate with Program Leads regarding student progress and performance preparation
■ Coordinate basic performance logistics (timing, staging, simple props/costumes as applicable)
■ Maintain organization of materials and rehearsal plans
■ Follow all Active Learning and school district policies and procedures
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & REQUIREMENTS
■ Experience in musical theatre, acting, vocal performance, or related field preferred
■ Experience working with children in a teaching, coaching, or camp setting preferred
■ Ability to teach basic acting, singing, and movement skills
■ Strong classroom management and group facilitation skills
■ Energetic, creative, and encouraging demeanor
■ Ability to build student confidence and foster a positive performance environment
■ Strong communication and organizational skills
■ Ability to manage rehearsals and meet performance deadlines
■ Reliable, punctual, and consistent in attendance
■ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Education Requirements:
■ High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
■ Background in theatre arts, music, or performing arts
Required:
■ Must pass a background check
■ TB test clearance (renewed every 4 years)
■ CPR/First Aid In-Person Certification
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
