Description:
The Linen Utilization Specialist is responsible for the distribution and collection process of
linen throughout the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) organization as well as the overall
management of linen.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in the forecast of expenses, planning and execution of budgets.
- Handles issues such as training, regulatory compliance, and staffing when needed in
cooperation with the on-site Contract Maintenance Manager (CMM).
- Participates in reporting, feedback and customer relations for the operation.
- Assists in production of weekly reporting for operations, Key Indicators, Payroll, and
Human Resource functions.
- Ensures with CMM oversight regulatory compliance for all required agencies. Must be
knowledgeable of OSHA and JCAHO requirements. Liaison for all Joint Commission,
linen review, and operating committees within the faculty and hospital group.
- Develops themselves in conjunction with CMM oversight as well as works toward
growing new business within the facility.
- Facilitates succession planning for his/her position.
- Attends and documents laundry facility surveys per HLAC & MTF guidelines.
- Assists in the organization and participates in nursing education pertaining to linen
consumption.
- Monitors and consults on HHS & MTF linen distribution policies and procedures.
- Assists, when called upon, in the delivery of linen to appropriate distribution points inside
the hospital.
- Monitors and consults on HHS & MTF Safety programs and trainings.
- Monitors and assists in the execution of linen savings initiatives in order to meet or
exceed PPD/PAPD goal standards.
- Monitors and communicates with on-site CMM for material and supply levels and
procurement.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Focused on quality and is detail oriented.
- At least 1 year of operations/management experience - preferably with laundry
operations.
- Proficient in the use of Windows based office software including but not limited to
Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Must possess great people skills, communications skills, client relations skills, as well
customer service skills.
- Ability to control and manage inventories appropriately and within budget.
- Able to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends and holidays.
- Able to multi-task.
- Able to adapt to change.
- Strong teamwork skills – ready and willing to work closely with all levels of personnel.
