Position Overview:
The Student Support Coordinator role focuses on implementing the Communities in Schools (CIS) model to provide integrated student support to empower them and overcome challenges that stand between them and an equitable path to education. The Student Support Coordinator prioritizes resources and creates equitable opportunities by partnering with school staff, local communities, and resources partners to ensure additional support is available for the students. The Student Support Coordinator will provide culturally sensitive interventions, services and support by working closely with diverse stakeholders, which will help promote positive behavior, social-emotional well-being, and academic success for all students.

The Student Support Coordinator will:
- Individually case-manage a caseload of students
- Coordinate school-wide events during the school year
- Provide and/or broker basic needs support such as food, clothing, hygiene, and school supplies
Anticipated results include
- A percentage of case-managed students will achieve their attendance, behavioral, academic, or social-emotional goal
- A percentage of case-managed students will graduate on time
- Students of the school population will receive basic needs support
Duties and Responsibilities
- In coordination with the school site team, implement the CIS Model of Integrated Student Supports that aims to address student needs, and socio-economic disparities, while eliciting resilience and scaling up student/family assets through community-building strategies.
- Coordinate the implementation of the annual site plan, needs assessment, program implementation, data tracking, and evaluation/reporting.
- Provide case management to referred students and their families to identify and eliminate barriers to their academic/school success.
- Provide and/or coordinate individual and group intervention for students on caseload.
- As requested, develop and support expected school-based events based on the identified needs of the families and students.
- Provide support to parents/families of caseload students with resources, referrals, and basic needs.
Evaluation and Documentation
- Document progress and track site and student caseload outcomes. Monitor and adjust services as needed to maximize effectiveness and impact.
- Communicate student progress with school administrators, counselors and administrative designees.
- Provide regular program information and accomplishments to the affiliate leadership team.
- Produce CISNEW monthly, quarterly, and end-of-year reports.
Collaboration
- Consult with school administrators, parents and staff about students.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings with school staff, the CISNEW team and other resource agencies.
- Work with school administrators, teachers, staff, families, counselors and other grant partners to identify students who need CIS services.
- Follow procedures for referral processes, assessment of student needs and strengths related to social, emotional and behavioral issues, identification of counseling focus, parent contacts and the use of referrals.
- Participate in grant-required activities, meetings and professional development opportunities.
- Maintain sensitivity to regulations regarding access to and use of confidential information in electronic and print records (policies must be followed regarding sharing information to access appropriate services for students individually and in groups).
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may supervise interns and/or volunteers.
Requirements
- Familiarity with local community-based / social services.
- Commitment to social justice, promoting diversity and inclusion for all students.
- Confident, strong relationship-building skills, effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage students, plus build and maintain effective working relationships with them and their families.
- Proven organizational and prioritization skills to coordinate support for an assigned caseload of students.
- Flexibility to deal with multiple, concurrent assignments, requests, etc.
- Self-initiative with the ability to work well under general supervision.
- Ability to effectively partner with team members, school staff, and community organizations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance, plus own reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or another relevant human/social services field.
- An associate degree and/or professional certification in a relevant human/social services field may be substituted.
- 2+ years of related work experience working with marginalized populations, preferably youth/childhood development that includes planning, implementing, and/or administering academic and enrichment-based activities for youth and children.
- Public school system work experience.
- Proficiency with juvenile justice and/or school dropout prevention, intervention, or re-engagement strategies.
- Case management experience.
- Bi-lingual proficiency, e.g., reading, speaking, writing.
- CPR / First Aid certification.

- On-site supervision of event set-up, operation, and clean-up, as needed.
- Occasional local travel as well as evening and weekend work may be required.
