POSITION SUMMARY:
The Child Care Startup and Retention Navigator will contribute to local and statewide efforts to improve access to child care for families by increasing the supply of high-quality, licensed child care programs. Central to this work will be recruiting individuals and organizations interested in becoming licensed child care providers and assisting providers in starting newly licensed child care programs, retaining existing programs that may be at risk of closing, and expanding programs with the potential to grow. The geographic focus of this position includes the counties of: Benton, Sherburne, Stearns and Wright.
Education and Training:
1. Required:
- High School Diploma and 25+ hours of Achieve/Develop approved training in early childhood education within the last five years or a commitment to complete this training after hire
- Experience working with families and/or children
2. Preferred:
- One year experience in a licensed child care setting; experience starting a program is strongly preferred
- Some post-secondary education in child development, early childhood education or a related field OR Associate’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Family Studies or related field OR
- A current CDA
- Knowledge of MN Rule 2 and/or Rule 3 child care licensing regulations
- Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Somali
- Experience with community organizing, community engagement, and outreach

- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills – verbal and written
- Ability to establish and maintain reflective and trusting relationships across all levels
- Demonstrated ability to form and maintain collaborations among community partners and stakeholders
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate data systems
- Knowledge of community resources, child development, and early learning standards
- Experience working with diverse populations and ability to utilize strategies and principles that ensure equity and inclusion
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Computer skills – Microsoft Office and other systems necessary to this work
- Assist with marketing/creating engaging content for social media
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Daily functions are performed at the office in Waite Park.
- Regular travel outside of the office for meetings with participants, partners, and stakeholders.
- Some evening and weekend hours may be required.
- Capability to perform data entry and phone work.
- Ability to access file cabinets and manage physical and digital files.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
