Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Medical Records Clerk to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will manage and maintain accurate medical records, ensuring seamless access for healthcare providers, billing departments, and insurance companies. Your expertise in medical coding, billing software, and electronic health record (EHR) systems will support efficient revenue cycle management and uphold the highest standards of medical documentation. Responsibilities
- Accurately organize, file, and retrieve medical records in accordance with established protocols and confidentiality standards
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems to input, update, and manage patient information for billing and coding purposes
- Apply ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG coding guidelines to ensure proper classification of diagnoses and procedures for inpatient and outpatient services
- Review medical documentation to ensure compliance with medical coding guidelines and insurance third-party billing requirements
- Collaborate with billing departments to facilitate accurate health insurance claim processing and resolve discrepancies in medical collections
- Maintain thorough documentation of all record activities, including audits, updates, and data entry logs
- Support revenue cycle management by ensuring timely submission of claims and accurate coding for optimal reimbursement
Experience
- Proven experience working with medical records management in a healthcare setting
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG assignment, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and electronic health record management for billing and coding
- Experience with medical billing processes and health insurance claim processing
- Understanding of medical collection procedures and revenue cycle workflows
- Prior work in a medical office environment is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of medical coding guidelines for inpatient services is a plus
