Memphis Family & Cosmetic Dentistry is a growing, modern dental practice located at 845 S Highland St in Memphis, TN. We provide a full range of dental services including general dentistry, cosmetic procedures, dental implants, and emergency care. As we continue to expand our patient base and service offerings, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Dental Insurance Billing & Claims Specialist to join our team full-time and help bring our claims submissions up to date.
Position Overview
The Dental Insurance Billing & Claims Specialist is responsible for managing the complete insurance billing cycle — from claim submission through payment posting and denial resolution. This role requires a self-starter who can work independently to identify and clear a backlog of outstanding claims while maintaining accurate and timely submission of new claims going forward. This is a full-time, on-site position (40 hours/week).
Key Responsibilities
- Review, prepare, and submit dental insurance claims accurately and in a timely manner (paper and electronic)
- Identify and work through existing backlog of unsubmitted or outstanding claims
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims and appeal as necessary
- Post insurance payments and adjustments to patient accounts
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to treatment
- Communicate with insurance companies to resolve claim issues, obtain prior authorizations, and clarify coverage
- Coordinate with front desk and clinical staff to ensure accurate coding and documentation for billing purposes
- Identify billing errors or coding discrepancies and correct prior to submission
- Maintain organized records of all claims, payments, and correspondence
- Generate and review aging reports; prioritize follow-up on overdue claims
- Stay current on dental CDT codes, insurance policy changes, and billing regulations
- Assist with patient billing questions and account inquiries as needed
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of dental insurance billing experience — required
- Proficiency with dental practice management software (Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental, or similar)
- Strong working knowledge of dental CDT codes and insurance billing procedures
- Experience submitting claims through dental clearinghouses (e.g., Availity, Change Healthcare, Dentrix Ascend)
- Familiarity with major dental insurance carriers (Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, BlueCross BlueShield, Medicaid)
- Ability to read and interpret explanation of benefits (EOB) documents
- Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in data entry
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a backlog efficiently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Medicaid dental billing in Tennessee
- Knowledge of coordination of benefits (COB) between primary and secondary insurance
- Certified Dental Coder (CDC) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) designation
- Experience working in a multi-provider or high-volume dental practice
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience

Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour
