Position Summary
DLR Accounting Solutions is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Tax Accountant to join our growing team in downtown Kent, Ohio. This position is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working directly with clients, solving financial problems, and being part of a collaborative and supportive team.
The Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns, assisting clients with tax planning and compliance, and providing accounting support as needed. This role will work with a variety of small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and individual clients and will have the opportunity to develop strong, long-term client relationships.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare individual, business, and nonprofit tax returns accurately and in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Review financial records and supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist clients with tax planning, compliance, and general tax-related questions.
- Identify potential tax issues, deductions, credits, and opportunities for clients.
- Prepare tax workpapers, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Communicate with clients regarding missing information, tax questions, deadlines, and required documentation.
- Maintain accurate and organized client files and records.
- Assist with bookkeeping, account reconciliations, and financial reporting as needed.
- Assist with payroll tax filings and other accounting-related projects.
- Support year-end close and preparation of financial information for tax purposes.
- Research tax issues and stay current with changes in federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Assist with audit and pre-audit support when needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling sensitive financial information.
- Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with clients and team members.
- Other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information professionally.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred
- Previous experience preparing individual and/or business tax returns.
- Experience working in a public accounting or CPA firm environment.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks.
- Knowledge of federal and Ohio tax regulations.
- Experience working with small businesses and/or nonprofit organizations.
- CPA eligibility, CPA certification, or progress toward CPA licensure is a plus.
