Overview
Meals on Wheels of Lancaster is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to alleviate food insecurity by providing fresh & nutritious foods. We prepare home-cooked meals in our commercial kitchen and deliver to the homes of community members who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. Here at Meals on Wheels, our service is more than just a meal. We value the relationships fostered between our drivers, clients, and volunteers. We will be looking for applicants who share these values. The driver will report to the Director of Operations and work in collaboration with kitchen & administrative staff and the designated volunteers at each branch location. Their primary responsibility is to deliver prepared meals promptly, professionally, and according to food safety policies.
Essential Functions:
Delivery Logistics
- Count and sort meals according to available kitchen and route sheets with the support of department staff and volunteers.
- Ensure all meals are stored in temperature-safe containers for transport.
- Follow all food safety policies and procedures throughout the duration of the shift (in the kitchen, during transport and at each branch location or client address).
- Assist with the production and preparation of meals when necessary.
- Securely load the vehicle, ensuring the safety of people, equipment, and product.
- In a timely, safe and professional manner, deliver all necessary meals and materials to each branch location, unloading & loading the vehicle at each stop.
- Report any damaged materials, goods, or products to relevant department staff.
- Upon return, unload all materials and equipment safely ensuring those materials are cleaned, maintained, and stored properly overnight.
Vehicles & Equipment - Maintenance & Cleanliness
- Monitor the condition of the delivery vehicle(s) and equipment ensuring that any issues are reported to Director of Operations.
- Coordinate vehicle & equipment maintenance and service with the Director of Operations as needed including dropping off and picking up the delivery vehicle(s) when service is needed.
- Ensure all delivery vehicle(s) and equipment are routinely cleaned, sanitized and maintained according to food safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure that proper documentation of delivery vehicle(s) registration, insurance, and annual state inspection are accurate and accessible.
Client, Volunteer & Partner Relations
- Provide any pertinent information regarding client wellbeing to the Director of Operations or relevant department staff.
- Report any issues/concerns regarding relations with the branch locations operations to Director of Operations so that these may be resolved promptly.
- Foster a positive, professional, engaging relationship with constituents throughout the duration of the shift.
Required Experience & Key Competencies
- Must pass all required background checks and compliance screenings (including state, federal, and monthly exclusion lists).
- Must provide proof of and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout employment
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and bend at the waist
- Must be reliable, punctual, and independent
- Maintain a professional and clean appearance
