Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility using safe lifting practices and equipment like Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Support patient care plans by providing comfort measures and ensuring a clean, safe environment aligned with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care in settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, or home care environments.
- Engage with patients experiencing cognitive impairments like Alzheimer’s or dementia by implementing specialized memory care strategies and behavioral health support.
- Assist in emergency situations using skills such as CPR or basic life support (BLS), especially in high-acuity environments like trauma centers or ICU units.
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) recognized by the state or relevant licensing authority.
- Experience working in diverse healthcare settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospice, or home health is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and infection control practices essential for delivering safe patient care.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR/Epic/eClinicalWorks) systems for accurate documentation and communication.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely while lifting or repositioning patients using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or transfer belts.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work compassionately with individuals of all ages—including pediatrics—and those with disabilities or complex medical conditions.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as phlebotomy or medication administration are advantageous.
