Optometric Technician Driver - $500 sign-on bonus
POSITION SUMMARY: This key position supports the Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program and is responsible for driving our eye care mobile units to schools and assisting the optometric physicians with examinations. This position is center-based and travels thougout Miami-Dade County and Statewide.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but not limited to:
- Responsible for driving the mobile unit to schools or any other location as assigned.
- Serves as first point of contact for students at school site.
- Prepares all equipment for use and maintains it in working order.
- Assists on the inspection of the units (equipment maintenance, cleanliness, necessary repairs, and inventory).
- Assists the optometric physicians with the examinations.
- Assists with vision screenings as needed.
- Maintains all required records.
- Communicates with school contacts to resolve problems which may prevent student participation.
- Performs data entry to input all exam results into Heiken database.
- Orders glasses for mobile unit visits and remakes.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required. Associate’s degree from an accredited college preferred.
- Minimum one year of experience driving a bus or truck preferred.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
- Ability to drive a van or mobile unit.
- Must be able to move, lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 35 – 40 lbs. of ophthalmic equipment on a daily basis.
- Good computers skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to learn and use agency database and computer network with efficiency.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required. Creole is preferred.
- Ability to write reports.
- Able to work a flexible schedule and travel throughout the state of Florida.
- Reliable and prompt in meeting assignment expectations.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Physical Exams are required to be completed annually.
- Previous experience working with children is preferred.
- High degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information.
- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and criminal background screening.
- Must be able to successfully complete the fingerprint process from Miami-Dade County Public Schools and obtain an identification badge for access to school grounds.
