Job Summary
Join our dynamic team as a CDL Delivery Driver / Yard Laborer, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and safe transportation of freight while supporting yard operations. This energetic position combines the responsibilities of delivering goods via commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers with hands-on yard work such as loading, unloading, and cargo handling. You will navigate over-the-road (OTR) routes using GPS navigation systems, adhere to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, and handle materials and goods with precision. Your proactive approach will help maintain seamless logistics operations, ensuring timely deliveries and a well-organized yard environment.
Duties
- Safely operate commercial trucks, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and refrigerated trailers for local and OTR routes.
- Deliver freight efficiently across designated routes while complying with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and hazardous materials regulations.
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
- Navigate delivery routes accurately using GPS navigation systems to meet delivery schedules.
- Assist with yard labor tasks such as organizing freight, managing logistics cargo handling, and preparing trucks for departure or arrival.
- Maintain compliance with FMCSA regulations by conducting vehicle inspections, documenting hours of service, and adhering to safety protocols.
- Support truck loading and unloading processes while ensuring safety standards are met when handling dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with dispatch to coordinate delivery schedules and communicate any route or schedule changes promptly.
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A) with a clean driving record; experience with manual transmission preferred.
- Proven experience in delivery driving, truck driving, or logistics cargo handling within a commercial setting.
- Knowledge of flatbed trucking, tanker hauling, or specialized freight is a plus.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route planning for over-the-road (OTR) driving routes.
- Ability to load and unload freight manually or using equipment like forklifts; forklift certification preferred.
- Understanding of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and safety standards for transporting goods.
- Strong physical stamina for manual handling tasks and yard labor duties; capable of lifting heavy loads safely.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety compliance during commercial truck driving activities.
