The Athletics Academic Counselor and Tutorial Coordinator is responsible for conducting an academic support program for student-athletes in designated sports while promoting an environment of academic excellence and fostering student success and retention. The incumbent monitors and enhances the opportunity for progress towards a degree, graduation, and continuing eligibility in accordance with UCR, Big West Conference, and NCAA regulations. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the tutoring program, including hiring, ongoing training, and supervision of tutorial student staff. The full salary range for the Athletics Academic Counselor and Tutorial Coordinator is $64,050.00 - $112,140.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $72,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, especially in regards to Academic Progress Program (APP) and the Academic Progress Rate (APR). Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling and analyzing data, and generating reports. Demonstrated knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services. Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Strong commitment to working with under-represented student populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching/learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.
