Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team! The ideal candidate will have a strong background in patient care, medical administrative support, and a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology. This role is essential in providing high-quality care to patients in primary care physician office. The Certified Medical Assistant will work closely with healthcare professionals to ensure efficient patient flow and excellent service delivery.
Duties
- Report directly to the office manager and work collaboratively with the care team to support the daily operations of the practice.
- Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, making them feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they arrive.
- Conduct patient intake assessments, including measuring and recording vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight) and obtaining medical histories.
- Assist physicians during examinations and procedures, offering hands-on support while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Provide clear instructions to patients as directed by the physician, helping them understand their care plan and follow-up steps.
- Ensure all necessary reports, lab results, and documentation are available and properly reviewed before the patient sees the provider.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records using EHR systems (e.g., Epic, eClinicalWorks), ensuring documentation meets ICD coding and compliance standards.
- Administer medications under physician direction and document all treatments and interventions accurately.
- Prepare exam rooms before and after visits, ensuring they are clean, fully stocked with medical supplies, and ready for patient care.
- Sterilize and maintain medical instruments, following proper infection control procedures.
- Perform specialized tasks when trained, such as assisting in the operating room, conducting X-rays, and supporting dermatology, geriatrics, or internal medicine services.
- Triage and manage messages between patients and providers, responding promptly and appropriately to clinical inquiries.
- Support the care team in quality improvement efforts, helping to track progress on performance goals and implement changes that enhance patient care.
- Attend regular team huddles, training sessions, and CAIPA meetings/webinars to stay up to date on Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) requirements and ensure workflows align with evolving standards.
- Participate in compliance, ethics, and information privacy/security training, ensuring full adherence to HIPAA and professional standards.
- Provide basic life support (BLS) and assist in emergencies when needed, prioritizing patient safety in all situations.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, helping to bridge the gap between clinical care and patient understanding.
- Ensure all clinical spaces are clean, safe, and organized, promoting a calm and efficient environment for patients and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned by physicians or office management, always maintaining a flexible and team-oriented mindset.
Qualifications
- Bilingual (Chinese and English)
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program is required.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Experience in hospital medicine, urgent care, or outpatient settings is preferred.
- Proficiency in EHR system for effective documentation and patient management.
- Previous experience in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), medical-surgical units, or emergency medicine is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while providing exceptional patient care.
