I am the founder of Salt & Silk, a developing swimwear brand, and I am looking for an experienced swimwear designer, sample seamstress, and tech pack creator to help bring my designs from concept to production.
I need someone who understands both the creative and technical sides of swimwear development. The ideal candidate can help refine my ideas, create professional sketches and technical flats, develop accurate tech packs, make or adjust patterns, and sew high-quality swimwear samples.
This position is best suited for someone with direct experience working with swimwear, lingerie, activewear, or other stretch garments. You should understand how swimwear fabrics, linings, elastic, hardware, support, coverage, and fit work together.
Responsibilities
- Work with me to develop and refine original swimwear concepts.
- Create professional design sketches and technical flats.
- Create complete, factory-ready tech packs.
- Include measurements, construction details, materials, trims, colorways, stitching, and placement instructions in each tech pack.
- Recommend appropriate swimwear fabrics, linings, elastic, hardware, and finishes.
- Create, modify, or correct swimwear patterns.
- Cut and sew prototypes and fit samples.
- Make fit and construction adjustments after reviewing samples.
- Help ensure each design is flattering, supportive, comfortable, and production-ready.
- Identify possible production issues before designs are sent to a manufacturer.
- Keep files, measurements, revisions, and design information organized.
- Communicate clearly regarding progress, timelines, questions, and revisions.
Qualifications
- Previous experience designing or developing swimwear, lingerie, activewear, or stretch garments.
- Strong knowledge of swimwear construction and stretch fabrics.
- Experience sewing nylon/spandex, polyester/spandex, swimwear lining, mesh, and elastic.
- Experience creating professional, factory-ready apparel tech packs.
- Knowledge of garment measurements, specifications, grading, tolerances, and construction callouts.
- Experience with patternmaking, sample development, and fit corrections.
- Ability to create technical flats using Adobe Illustrator or similar software.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Reliable communication and ability to meet agreed-upon deadlines.
- Access to the equipment needed to produce professional swimwear samples.
- A portfolio showing relevant design, sewing, patternmaking, or tech pack work.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working directly with swimwear manufacturers.
- Experience developing bikinis, one-piece swimsuits, supportive tops, high-waisted bottoms, or resortwear.
- Knowledge of inclusive sizing and fitting different body types.
- Experience with reversible, seamless, underwire, structured, or supportive swimwear.
- Familiarity with sustainable or recycled swimwear fabrics.
- Experience using CLO 3D, Browzwear, Gerber, Optitex, or similar apparel-development software.

I am looking for someone who is creative, technically skilled, dependable, and comfortable collaborating with a growing brand. You should be able to take an idea and turn it into a clear, professional design that can be sampled and manufactured.
You must understand that fit and construction are extremely important in swimwear. I am looking for someone who pays close attention to details and can provide honest recommendations when a design needs to be adjusted.
This may begin as a project-based position, with the opportunity for ongoing work on future collections.
