Duties
- Conduct comprehensive inspections and diagnostics on heavy trucks, including tractor-trailers, dump trucks, and service vehicles using automotive electrical systems repair, schematics, and diagnostic tools
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire service, brake repair, suspension adjustments, wheel alignments, shocks & struts replacement, and HVAC system servicing
- Repair and replace mechanical components including transmissions, hydraulics, air brakes, steering systems, shocks & struts, and engine parts such as diesel engines
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and soldering techniques to fabricate parts or perform custom repairs when necessary
- Maintain detailed records of repairs performed using service documentation standards; interpret schematics for complex equipment repairs including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and other industrial machinery
- Assist with heavy lifting tasks and equipment maintenance to ensure safety standards are met during all repair activities
- Provide exceptional customer service by communicating repair needs clearly to truck drivers and fleet managers
Skills
- Proven and extensive heavy truck mechanic experience with a strong understanding of vehicle mechanics.
- Proficiency in automotive diagnostics and automotive electrical system repair; familiarity with schematics is essential
- Skilled in fabrication techniques including welding and soldering; capable of working with power tools safely and effectively
- Knowledge of heavy equipment operation such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, farm machinery, and industrial equipment
- Strong mechanical knowledge covering transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, air brakes, alignment procedures, shocks & struts
- Experience working with diesel mechanics; ability to troubleshoot diesel engine issues efficiently
- Ability to read technical manuals and schematics accurately; familiarity with vehicle systems maintenance standards
- Excellent problem-solving skills combined with hands-on mechanical expertise in vehicle maintenance and equipment repair
- Customer service orientation with clear communication skills to liaise effectively with drivers and team members
