Purpose: Provides supervision and support for students assigned to in-school suspension, ensuring a structured, safe, and orderly environment that promotes accountability, academic progress, and positive behavioral change.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience working with adolescents in an educational or structured setting preferred.

Demonstrate aptitude or competence for executing the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with district expectations.

Demonstrate effective communication, organization, and behavior management skills.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Supervise students assigned to in-school suspension in a structured and orderly environment.

Communicate and enforce ISS rules, expectations, and procedures.
-
Monitor student behavior and ensure students remain on task with assigned work.

Assist students with academic assignments and coordinate with teachers to obtain coursework.

Maintain accurate records of student attendance, behavior, and academic progress.

Implement behavior intervention strategies and support student reflection and accountability.
-
Assist in de-escalating student conflicts and support students in returning to class ready to learn.

Maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and parents/guardians.
-
Communicate effectively with staff regarding student progress and concerns.
-
Follow all district policies, procedures, and regulations, including student confidentiality (FERPA).

Utilize basic computer systems and student information systems for recordkeeping and communication.

Perform general clerical duties related to ISS program operations.

Requires the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.

Requires the ability to supervise students in a classroom setting with frequent interruptions.

Must be able to respond to and manage disruptive or escalated student behavior.

Requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach as needed.

Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment with students exhibiting behavioral challenges.

Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:

Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive ISS environment.

Ensure students complete assigned academic work during ISS placement.

Document and report student behavior and concerns to administration.

Support building-wide supervision needs as assigned (e.g., transitions, lunch, dismissal).

Communicate with parents/guardians as directed by administration.

Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and safety expectations.

Participate in staff meetings and professional development as required.

Other duties assigned by the building administrator, which are consistent with the general requirements of the position.
