CEMENT MASON
Job Summary:
A Cement Mason (also known as a concrete finisher) is responsible for placing, finishing, and curing concrete for construction projects such as sidewalks, roads, floors, and foundations. Their work ensures smooth, durable, and level concrete surfaces. Prepare, pour, and finish concrete according to project specifications. They work with various tools and techniques to achieve the desired surface texture and strength while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and set up forms for concrete
- Mix, pour, and spread concrete using hand tools or machinery
- Level and smooth concrete surfaces using screeds and floats
- Finish surfaces with trowels, brushes, or power tools for desired texture
- Cut joints to control cracking
- Apply sealants or curing compounds to protect finished surfaces
- Repair and patch existing concrete structures
- Read and interpret blueprints and project specifications
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean work area
Required Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of concrete mixing, pouring, and finishing
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Physical strength and stamina
- Attention to detail and precision
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
- Familiarity with hand and power tools used in concrete work
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- On-the-job training or apprenticeship in concrete work
- Prior experience in construction is an advantage
- Relevant certifications may be an advantage, depending on local regulations
Working Conditions:
- Primarily works outdoors on construction sites
- Exposure to heat, cold, and wet conditions
- Requires standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting for extended periods
