At Spectra Scientific, we design, manufacture, and market high-quality scientific instrumentation used for environmental monitoring and data collection. Our equipment from precision water quality sondes to advanced pressure modules to groundwater sampling equipment from bladder pumps to peristaltic pumps. Spectra equipment is trusted by professionals to be of the highest quality and easy to use.
This specific role is a core addition to our day to day operations team within our Rental/Sales team. Our rental fleet is a vital part of our business, ensuring environmental consultants and field engineers have immediate access to perfectly calibrated, field-ready instruments. As a technician for this team, you will be the gatekeeper of our rental inventory, ensuring every piece of gear that leaves our facility is meticulously calibrated, and ready to perform flawlessly in the field, while providing the technical backup our rental clients rely on.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rental Fleet Assembly & Prep: Hand-assemble, build, and configure scientific instrumentation and accessories specifically for our rental inventory and incoming customer orders.
- Calibration & Quality Control: Perform precise calibration procedures on environmental sensors, water level loggers, and pressure controllers. Ensure all returned rental gear is thoroughly cleaned, tested, recalibrated, and certified for its next deployment.
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Systematically diagnose mechanical, electrical, and firmware issues in returned rental equipment or customer units. Perform component-level repairs and hardware upgrades.
- Direct Customer Support: Provide direct, responsive technical support to rental clients via phone and email. Help field technicians troubleshoot equipment deployment, data logs, and communication setups in real time.
- Inventory & Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of serial numbers, calibration logs, repair histories, and rental readiness status.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Hands-on Technical Aptitude: Proven experience using hand tools, soldering irons, and testing equipment (like multimeters). Experience with electro-mechanical assembly or instrument maintenance is highly valued.
- Rapid Problem-Solving: The ability to look at a malfunctioning piece of hardware, quickly isolate the root cause, and execute a fix to keep rental turnarounds on schedule.
- Customer-Facing Communication: Clear, professional verbal and written communication skills. You should be comfortable walking a stressed field technician through a troubleshooting process over the phone.
- Detail-Oriented Mindset: Environmental data relies on accuracy. This role requires high precision, patience, and strict adherence to calibration protocols.
- Education/Experience: An Associate’s degree in electronics, environmental science, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field—OR equivalent hands-on experience in electro-mechanical assembly, technical repair, or environmental field work.
