Commercial Truck Technician (CDL Preferred – Volvo Experience
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Truck Technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks, with a preference for candidates holding a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and experience working on Volvo trucks. The ideal candidate will ensure all vehicles operate safely and efficiently while meeting DOT and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on commercial trucks and trailers
- Troubleshoot engine, transmission, brake, suspension, and electrical systems
- Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Repair diesel engines, including aftertreatment systems (DPF, DEF)
- Work on OEM systems, especially Volvo truck platforms
- Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical issues
- Perform road tests (CDL preferred) to verify repairs
- Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation
- Follow shop safety procedures and company policies
- Welding
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (technical training preferred)
- Valid CDL (preferred but not always required)
- 2+ years of experience with heavy-duty trucks
- Experience with Volvo trucks strongly preferred
- Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Ability to use diagnostic software and tools
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Certifications (Preferred)
- ASE Certification (e.g., T-Series for trucks)
- OEM certifications (especially Volvo training programs)
- EPA certification for refrigerant handling (if working on HVAC systems)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs
- Stand, bend, and work in various positions for extended periods
- Work in shop and outdoor environments
Work Environment
- Fleet maintenance shop
- Exposure to noise, grease, and heavy equipment
- May include overtime or emergency repairs
