Job Title: Assistant Project Manager – Heavy Civil Construction
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Position Overview
A well-established, privately held general contractor with a strong presence in Central Ohio is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support the execution of complex heavy civil infrastructure projects. This organization has a long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality work across site development, earthwork, underground utilities, roadway construction, and public infrastructure improvements.
The Assistant Project Manager will play a key role in supporting project leadership throughout all phases of construction—from preconstruction through closeout—while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects
- Support project startup activities including permitting, subcontractor onboarding, and schedule development
- Track project costs, quantities, and productivity to help ensure financial performance goals are met
- Assist in managing subcontractors and vendors, including procurement, contracts, and change orders
- Coordinate with field teams, superintendents, and engineers to ensure work is executed per plans and specifications
- Review drawings, specifications, and submittals for accuracy and constructability
- Support the preparation of RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
- Participate in project meetings and maintain clear communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor project schedules and help identify and mitigate potential delays
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality expectations

Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of experience in construction project management, preferably in heavy civil or site development
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
- Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methods, sequencing, and logistics
- Experience working with public infrastructure or DOT-related projects is a plus
- Proficiency in construction management software (Procore, Viewpoint, or similar)
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
