GALLERY DIRECTOR- H.C. PORTER GALLERY- VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI
The H.C. Porter Gallery is a multi-level building located in the heart of Historic Downtown Vicksburg, Mississippi, featuring a ground floor fine art gallery space, a second floor loft, and a third floor personal living quarters and roof terrace. This gallery focuses on the work of internationally known artist H.C. Porter, her exhibitions, and her special projects. H.C. Porter Gallery also features the work of a select group of visiting artists. The second floor loft space is available to rent via AirBnB and VRBO, drawing visitors from around the globe offering a wonderful opportunity to present H.C. Porter's work to them for purchase.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: H.C. Porter Gallery is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and charismatic Gallery Director to begin work available as soon as September 1st, 2026. Pay will included the negotiated hourly rate and 5% commission of your sales made. The qualified candidate is organized, creative and strategic—able to envision and execute events, campaigns, and products to expand the gallery’s reach, while also maintaining the gallery’s day-to-day physical operations, including loft rental on Airbnb and VRBO. The ability to be creative, generate new clientele, coordinate events, manage multiple tasks at once, and pay attention to detail is a must. Problem-solving abilities and management skills are necessary for all candidates. The full-time Gallery Director will work closely with and report to H.C. Porter, owner and artist, but must be self-motivated to complete projects and daily tasks. The ideal candidate possesses strong written and oral communication skills, sales ability and ideally, some design skills such as Photoshop, Canva or Indesign with an interest in marketing and a definite people person. This position offers the exciting opportunity to work in the challenging business of art and art management.

- Bachelor’s Degree (Preferably in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Business, Marketing, or Related Field)
- Management Experience (1+ Year)
- Retail/Sales Experience (3+ Year)
- Working Knowledge of Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Indesign), Microsoft Office
- Self-Motivated
- Physically Able to Lift up to 30 lbs
- Strong Knowledge of Social Media and Marketing Tools
- Strong Interpersonal and Problem Solving Skills
- Strong Editing, Writing, and Communication Ability
- Unquestionable Integrity
- Able to Meet Deadlines
- Ability to Work a Flexible Schedule—Occasional Evening, Weekends, and Holidays
- Knowledge of Fine Art and Art Processes
- Public Speaking Experience a Plus
- Framing Knowledge a Plus
- Valid Driver’s License and Working Vehicle—Must be able to travel to Jackson Occasionally
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the Day-to-Day Operations of H.C. Porter Gallery and Loft Rental on Airbnb/VRBO
- Package and Ship Orders
- Maintain/Expand Collector Relationships
- Have a Working Knowledge of H.C. Porter’s Work—Past and Present
- Respond to all Inquiries in a Timely and Professional Manner
- Frame, Hang, and Store Artwork Properly
- Oversee all Wholesale/Consignment Accounts
- Update and Maintain hcporter.com
- Oversee the Rental/Maintenance of Loft via AirBnB/VRBO
- Attend Art Shows and Fairs with H.C. Porter if Needed and Available.
- Coordinate H.C. Porter’s Schedule for Events/Appearances
- Expand/Build Upon the Marketing and PR Strategy of H.C. Porter Gallery
- Maintain a Constant Social Media Presence (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
- Send Regular Emails using Constant Contact
- General and Targeted Emails for Sales, Shows, Promotions, and Special Projects
Pay: $9.50 - $11.00 per hour
