Veterinary Eye Specialists of Athens is a new, privately owned veterinary ophthalmology practice opening in the Athens, Georgia area. Founded by Georgia native and University of Georgia graduate Taylor Belk, DVM, DACVO, Veterinary Eye Specialists of Athens was created with a strong commitment to serving the community she has long called home. Our mission is to provide exceptional, compassionate specialty eye care while creating a supportive, respectful, and fulfilling environment for our team.
We are looking for an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) who is excited to help build something special from the ground up.
This is a unique opportunity to work directly alongside a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, develop specialized skills in veterinary ophthalmology, and play an important role in shaping the culture, workflow, and patient experience of a brand-new specialty practice.
Ophthalmology experience is not required. We are happy to train the right person who is motivated to learn and enthusiastic about developing specialty skills.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and appointments
- Obtain patient histories and accurately document medical records
- Perform and assist with ophthalmic diagnostics, including intraocular pressure measurements and other specialized testing
- Assist with sedation and anesthesia monitoring for ophthalmic procedures and surgery
- Prepare patients, equipment, and surgical areas for procedures
- Assist with patient care before, during, and after surgery
- Provide compassionate patient care using gentle, low-stress handling techniques
- Educate clients regarding medications, treatment plans, and at-home care
- Maintain accurate treatment records and communicate effectively with clients
- Maintain and care for specialized ophthalmic equipment
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming hospital environment
- Work closely with the doctor and team to provide excellent patient care
- Contribute ideas and help establish efficient workflows and protocols as the practice grows
What We’re Looking For
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in the state of Georgia
- Previous veterinary technician experience required
- Experience with anesthesia monitoring and surgical nursing preferred
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Compassionate, gentle, and confident patient handling skills
- Excellent communication and client service skills
- A willingness to learn and develop specialty knowledge
- Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and genuine passion for veterinary medicine
Experience in veterinary ophthalmology is welcome but not required. We will provide training to the right candidate who is enthusiastic about learning and growing in this specialty.

Compensation & Benefits
