Duties
- The incumbent shall perform analytical processes using Standard Methods with a very high degree of accuracy, precision, and record-keeping that meet quality control standards.
- Collect water samples from various locations throughout the distribution system and within the water filtration plant while following Chain of Custody procedures.
- The incumbent shall perform calibration and essential maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Monitors laboratory inventory and notifies the water Quality Manager when supplies are needed.
- Prepares, reviews, and submits water quality monitoring reports for compliance and non-compliance to the Water Quality Manager.
- The incumbent shall respond effectively to customer concerns and complaints regarding water quality.
- Performs other duties as assigned and assists other employees as required.
- Works any shift, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
Job Requirements
- Incumbent must have an IDEM WT5 Surface Water Operator’s License within eighteen months of placement.
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Science, Environment or Civil, is required. Incumbent may be subject to taking a pre-employment examination.
- Applicant must exercise sound judgment by following appropriate methods and procedures to accomplish several related but separate tasks assigned by the Water Quality Manager.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license.
Skills and Knowledge
- Incumbent must be able to understand work processes, methods, and use of equipment and machinery.
- Must have basic math and computational ability and a high degree of organizational skills
- Must be able to exercise independent judgement and respond to emergency situations, selecting approp0riate methods and procedures.
Responsibility, Physical Effort and Work Environment
- Work is performed under moderate supervision, with the incumbent reporting to the Water Quality Manager.
- Physical effort is regularly exerted for prolonged periods. The effort involves moderate lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and bending. Must possess good manual dexterity. In addition, must meet and perform all established physical requirements.
- Moderate exposure to temperature and all types of weather conditions. Occasional exposure to hazardous work conditions, including noise, fumes, height, slippery surfaces, and sites under construction.
- The incumbent will be required to drive to various locations throughout the system to collect water samples, including customers’ homes, businesses, construction sites, water towers, and pump stations.
- The work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions, including protective equipment.
- The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining an organized, clean, and safe laboratory environment.
