American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Stepdown position at a children's hospital in Illinois, requiring an active IL RN license and hands-on experience with vents, trachs, and G-tubes.

Inpatient Pediatric Stepdown unit in a children's hospital setting with 39 beds and all specialties on one unit
-
Patient population spans ages 2 weeks to 18 years, with 50–60% of patients having some form of technology dependence (e.g., chronic ventilators, tracheostomies)

Unit focuses on chronic illness care; no drips, surgical, or transitional patients

Patient ratio is 1:3–4
-
Schedule options include 3x12 or 4x12-hour shifts; night shift hours are 19:00–07:00

Every other weekend required

No on-call required

Floating within scope required to meet facility needs

Block scheduling available

Charting via Meditech

Free parking available on-site

Active Illinois RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration (compact RN licenses are not accepted in IL; IL licensure can take up to 3 months to obtain)

Current certifications required: BLS and PALS

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

PICU experience preferred

Experience with ventilators, tracheostomies, and G-tubes required

Experience with a 1:4 patient ratio required

Meditech EMR experience required

Flu vaccine required; medical and religious exemptions accepted

Caring for pediatric patients with chronic illnesses, including those on chronic ventilators and with tracheostomies

13-week contract
-
Local candidates are welcome to apply at the same rate as travelers

Pending IL RN license applications are accepted, but the active license must be in hand prior to starting

All time-off requests must be approved and included in the contract before the start date; no RTO may be added after the contract begins

Scrub color is open — any color is accepted, neat and clean; pediatric-themed scrubs are encouraged
