Job Summary
The Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter (AADVS) is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and trauma-informed part-time Residential Support Staff to help ensure the safety, stability, and well-being of individuals and families residing in our emergency shelter.
This shift is Tuesday and Friday, 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.
This role is essential to the daily operations of the shelter and provides direct support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, dating violence, and stalking. The ideal candidate is calm under pressure, highly organized, and committed to creating a safe and respectful environment for all residents.
In this role, you are often the first point of connection and support, helping survivors navigate crisis situations and take steps toward safety and independence.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention, crisis response, and emotional support to survivors via a 24-hour crisis hotline and in-person services
- Conduct safety planning, risk assessment, and referrals for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, dating violence, and stalking
- Maintain strict client confidentiality and uphold all advocacy and ethical standards
- Monitor and enforce shelter safety protocols, including routine security checks and emergency procedures
- Complete detailed shift reports, incident reports, and documentation compliance requirements
- Provide referrals to community resources, including housing, legal, and supportive services
- Assist with shelter operations, including light cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe living environment
- Support clients with childcare services and family stabilization needs
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development
- Communicate with leadership and on-call staff regarding critical incidents and program needs
- Perform other duties as assigned to support victim services, shelter operations, and survivor-centered care
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Associate’s Degree in Social Work or related field preferred
- Experience in a social service setting strongly preferred
- Knowledge of domestic violence and related issues is highly desirable
- Ability to remain calm in crisis situations and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Understanding of computers, Microsoft programs
Additional Requirements
- Must complete 40+ hours of domestic violence training
- Availability to work occasional weekends and holidays as needed
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and perform physical tasks as required
