Job Description: Assistant Principal - Northview Crossroads Middle School
Position Summary:
The Assistant Principal supports the principal in providing instructional leadership, managing school operations, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. This role involves working closely with students, staff, parents, and the community to ensure the academic and social-emotional success of all students. The Middle School Assistant Principal is also responsible for the oversight of the Middle School Athletic Program.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or a related field.
Certification:
- Valid Michigan School Administrator Certificate preferred. If current Michigan School Administrator Certification is not held, there must be a commitment to obtain required certification within three years of start date.

Valid Michigan teaching certification or school licensure required.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years of successful classroom or building experience; 3-5 years of administrative experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership & Student Achievement

Assist in implementing and monitoring curriculum, instructional programs, educator evaluations and assessment strategies. Experience/training in the Danielson model, preferred.

Support teachers with instructional strategies, classroom management, and professional development.

Analyze student performance data to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
-
Evaluate educators and staff as assigned by the building principal.
-
Promote a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement.
-

Student Discipline & Behavior Management

Enforce school policies, procedures, and the student code of conduct.

Implement and support restorative practices and positive behavior interventions.

Address disciplinary issues in a fair and consistent manner while fostering a supportive school climate.

Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding behavioral expectations and interventions.

Middle School Athletics
-
Hiring, mentoring and evaluation of approximately 35 Middle School coaches per the Teacher Personnel Agreement;

Attending Quarterly West Michigan Middle School Conference League Meetings

Scheduling of Games, Officials, and Event Staff alongside Athletic Administrative Assistant
-
Collaborating with the Maintenance and Facilities Team when upkeep and maintenance of athletic spaces is needed

Partnering with coaches to ensure equipment is up-to-date and in functioning order.

Operations & Administrative Duties

Assist with scheduling, staff supervision, and daily school operations.

Coordinate emergency preparedness, safety drills, and crisis response plans.

Support the development and implementation of school improvement plans.

Participate in staff hiring, evaluations, and professional development planning.

Family & Community Engagement
-
Maintain open, effective communication with parents and guardians.

Collaborate with community organizations to support student learning and well-being.

Address concerns from parents and community members in a professional manner.

Terms:

Assistant Principal follows the Administrative Personnel Agreement and is evaluated by the building principal.
