Supplemental Healthcare is partnering with a school in Bronx, NY to hire Special Education Teachers for the 26/27 School Year. This role focuses on delivering specialized instruction to students with visual impairments and diverse learning needs, while supporting English language development.
Spanish-speaking candidates are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, individualized instruction in English as a Second Language (ESL) within a special education setting
- Adapt curriculum to meet the needs of visually impaired students
- Utilize assistive technology and specialized instructional strategies
- Implement and support the Expanded Core Curriculum
- Develop and use tactile and alternative learning materials (e.g., Braille)
- Conduct and apply Functional Vision Assessments and Reading Medium Assessments
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff to support student achievement
- Support students’ orientation, mobility, and independent learning skills
Required Qualifications
- NY State Special Education Teacher Certification (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in English or related field from an accredited program
- Valid CPR certification
- Fingerprint clearance

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in:
- Braille and Nemeth Code
- Assistive Technology
- Eye conditions and their impact on learning
- Expanded Core Curriculum
- Tactile Graphic Production
- Functional Vision & Reading Medium Assessments
- Developmental patterns of visually impaired learners
- Orientation and Mobility techniques
- Curriculum adaptation strategies
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish-speaking preferred)
- Experience working with visually impaired or blind students
- Prior ESL teaching experience in a special education setting
