Hours: Monday - Thursday 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Friday 6 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Overtime as required
Job Overview:
The Saw Operator is responsible for accurately measuring, cutting, and preparing raw materials for fabrication and manufacturing operations. This position operates horizontal band saws and other cutting equipment to process structural steel, tubing, plate, and other materials according to engineering drawings, work orders, and production schedules. The Saw Operator plays a critical role in ensuring material accuracy, quality, and timely production flow.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operate band saws, cold saws, and other material cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work orders, and cut lists.
- Measure, mark, and cut materials to specified dimensions and tolerances.
- Verify material type, size, and quantity prior to processing.
- Inspect cut materials for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
- Maintain proper identification and traceability of materials throughout the cutting process.
- Load, unload, and move materials using forklifts, overhead cranes, hoists, and other material handling equipment.
- Monitor saw blade condition and perform blade changes as required.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Maintain production records and report completed work accurately.
- Identify and report material defects, equipment issues, and safety concerns.
- Coordinate with fabrication, welding, machining, and assembly departments to ensure production requirements are met.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
- Provides support in additional areas of production and operations as necessary to achieve departmental goals, maintain workflow, and support business objectives.
Qualifications:
Education
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Technical or vocational training in manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial trades is a plus.
Experience
· Previous experience operating industrial saws or manufacturing equipment preferred.
· Experience in steel fabrication, structural steel processing, crane manufacturing, or heavy industrial manufacturing is highly desirable.
· Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and fabrication drawings accurately.
· Strong understanding of measuring and material handling practices.
· Knowledge of structural steel shapes, tubing, plate, and fabrication materials preferred.
· Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and measurements.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Good communication and organizational skills.
· Ability to prioritize work and meet production deadlines.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach for extended periods, and lift throughout the work shift.
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, welding operations, and moving equipment.
· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving equipment.
· Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and material handling equipment.
