Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Drug and Alcohol Counselor to join our clinical team. The ideal candidate will provide individual and group counseling services to veterans struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. This position plays a vital role in supporting clients throughout their recovery journey while promoting long-term wellness and relapse prevention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive substance abuse assessments and screenings.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs and clinical recommendations.
- Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
- Provide education on addiction, recovery, relapse prevention, and coping skills.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans as needed.
- Collaborate with medical, psychiatric, nursing, and case management staff.
- Assist with discharge planning and referrals to community resources.
- Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of practice.
QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field.
- State certification or eligibility for certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
- Minimum of one year of experience in substance abuse treatment, behavioral health, or related services.
- Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC), Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), or equivalent credential.
- Experience working with veterans or military populations.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment.
- Experience facilitating group therapy and psychoeducational programming.
