MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
Essential Personnel
Description:
Performs a wide variety of skilled tasks including carpentry, painting, electrical work, plumbing, locksmithing, heating/refrigeration, and masonry to facilitate the maintenance and repair of public and/or residential buildings and grounds; routinely inspects and/or repairs mechanical equipment; and completes work orders in a timely and satisfactory manner. MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK AND HAVE A CLEAN DRIVING RECORD TO BE A COVERED DRIVER FOR COMPANY INSURANCE.
Essential Functions:
1. Maintains and repairs Housing Authority properties and associated equipment and systems, and performs daily on the spot corrections to address corrections to the appearance, operability, maintenance, and safety conditions of Housing Authority sites;
2. Performs preventative maintenance and inspection of mechanical equipment;
3. Other essential functions include, but are not limited to:
➢ Repair and maintenance of high security electro-mechanical locks;
➢ Check and repair electrical systems, including motors and building control panels;
➢ Repair plumbing, water and sewer systems, pumps, valves, and controls;
➢ Troubleshoot and repair commercial and/or residential appliances, washers, dryers, and kitchen equipment;
➢ Maintain and/or make minor repairs to refrigeration, heating and cooling systems;
➢ Repair, replace, install, and/or refinish flooring, door screens, partitions, desks, related hardware fixtures, and other equipment;
➢ Paint/waterproof walls and other building structures;
➢ Mow lawns, prune, weed, and mulch shrubs; and remove litter and debris from properties;
➢ Change light bulbs, filters, and move furniture when necessary;
➢ Operate a Housing Authority vehicle;
➢ Maintain cleanliness of Housing Authority properties as needed;
➢ Provide on-call emergency responses to stabilize situations until normal working hours; and
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
➢ Ability to gain thorough knowledge of Housing Authority policies and procedures;
➢ Knowledge of mechanical maintenance procedures, including, but not limited to electrical work, carpentry, painting, plumbing, locksmithing, heating/refrigeration, and masonry;
➢ Ability to effectively communicate with other staff and members of the public;
➢ Ability to prioritize tasks in order of importance and urgency;
➢ Ability to operate a motor vehicle;
➢ Ability to possess a valid Maryland driver’s license;
➢ Basic math and writing skills.
Education and Experience:
➢ High School Diploma or GED
➢ 2 years or more of related experience, with at least 1 year experience as a journeyman
NOTE: Any equivalent combinations of acceptable education and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities as cited within may be considered.
Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work demands occasional strenuous effort. For example, handling of moderately heavy boxes, moderately heavy tools, equipment, or materials of 30 to 120 pounds.
Work may involve risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, construction sites or machines. Employees may be required to use protective gear such as boots and gloves; ability to climb ladders, work in and around manholes and work on construction sites, may require working in adverse weather conditions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,614.40 per year
