Alameda County Industries, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Pool Driver to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in providing residential and commercial collection services for solid waste, recyclables, and organics in the Cities of Alameda, Castro Valley, San Leandro and San Ramon.
Position Summary: Drives an automated residential collection vehicle to provide prompt, courteous and complete waste and recycling removal for residential customers.
Representative Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.
- Performs complete pre-trip inspection including, but not limited to, air brakes, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges and controls.
- Drives heavy truck along residential routes and to disposal and processing sites
. Operates hand hydraulic controls to lift/load refuse, operate compactor and unloads collected material at the designated facility.
- Moves waste or recycling container to position accessible by truck arm, as necessary.
- Courteously interacts with customers, dispatchers and supervisors.
- Reports unserviceable waste and recycling container.
- Cleans up the area around an accidental waste spill.
- Cleans spilled material from truck body and frame and secures hopper upon completion of each load.
- Reads route sheet, follows map and services each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by dispatcher and/or supervisor.
- Completes required route/productivity sheets, Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs) and other forms.
- Performs driver check-in procedures upon returning to the facility at the end of the day.
- Follows all safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Typical Physical Requirements:

· Lift and carry up to 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.
· Push/Pull wheeled containers over 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.
· Climb into and out of truck repeatedly throughout the workday.
· Walk to and from container location throughout the workday.
· Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
· Exposure to solid waste, recycling and organic materials.
Experience:
- Proven experience as a commercial driver with expertise in operating manual transmission vehicles.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Familiarity with commercial driving regulations and safety standards.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-oriented approach.
Required:
- Must possess a valid Class A license
- Must have five (5) years' experience driving a commercial vehicle
- Must be able to read speak fluent English
Pay Range: $37.90 - $49
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $37.90 - $40.42 per hour
