Job Title: Montessori Substitute Teacher
Position Summary:
We are seeking a caring, patient, and reliable Substitute Teacher to join our Montessori team. The substitute will support the teachers in guiding children (ages 3 months–12 years) through their daily routines and activities. The role includes helping children with independence skills, toilet training, classroom preparation, and maintaining a safe, nurturing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the teacher in preparing and maintaining the Montessori classroom environment.
- Support children in daily routines including arrival, transitions, meals, and rest time.
- Guide children in toilet training with patience and encouragement.
- Encourage independence and self-help skills (dressing, handwashing, cleaning up).
- Provide gentle redirection and positive reinforcement when guiding behavior.
- Maintain cleanliness, order, and safety of the classroom and materials.
- Observe children and communicate progress or concerns with the lead teacher.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play.
- Assist with setting up Montessori lessons and activities.
- Collaborate with staff to provide a nurturing, respectful environment that follows Montessori principles.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (CDA or Early Childhood coursework preferred).
- Experience working with young children.
- Understanding of or interest in Montessori philosophy (training provided if needed).
- Ability to support toilet training and diapering routines.
- Patience, compassion, and ability to follow the child’s pace.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Frequent bending, standing, and movement to support active toddlers.
Schedule: Flexible, Monday–Friday 6:30am-6pm (substitutes are able to take on shifts as they are available)
Pay: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour
