We are seeking an Animal Care Technician I to join our Safety Assessment team in Reno, NV. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about animal welfare, enjoy hands-on work, and are looking to build a career in animal care, research support, or laboratory operations.

What You'll Do
As an Animal Care Technician I, you will help ensure the health, welfare, and humane care of research animals while supporting daily facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide humane care and positive interactions with animals
- Perform daily animal husbandry activities, including feeding, watering, and monitoring animal health
- Handle and transport animals safely and appropriately
- Change, clean, and maintain animal cages and housing areas
- Clean and sanitize animal care areas, equipment, and workspaces
- Collect, record, review, and verify data using paper and electronic systems
- Maintain equipment and perform basic operational checks
- Stock supplies and support facility organization
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and animal welfare regulations
- Complete required training and develop technical skills for career progression
Schedule
- Training Period (approximately 6 months): Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
- After Training: Either Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday, 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Work Environment
This position is based in a research facility and may involve:
- Working with live animals in a controlled vivarium environment
- Exposure to animal dander, allergens, biohazards, and zoonotic disease risks
- Working around equipment, mechanical systems, cleaning agents, and laboratory materials
- Noise levels that vary depending on the animal species and work area
Physical Requirements
- Lift, carry, push, or move materials, equipment, and animals weighing up to 50 pounds
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday
- Use fine motor skills while handling animals and equipment
- Work in confined spaces when necessary
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Possess close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
