The Learning Community, a vibrant public charter school that centers the voices of students, families, and teachers seeks a collaborative, dedicated Youth Mentor who holds high expectations for all students. Day to Day Responsibilities:
· Lead programming for students after school
· Support academics during homework help time
· Encourage creativity and intellectual curiosity by building on the student's interests
and talents.
· Help to supervise and interact with children to facilitate their play and learning.
· Serve as a positive role model to students with your actions and words.
· Work together as a team to ensure a safe and fun environment for our students.
· Implement meaningful youth programming.
· Manage time wisely to ensure a successful time with students.
· Model safe behavior for our students
· Ability to be engaged in physical exercise with children such as walking upstairs, running, crawling, bending, twisting, etc.
· Monitor students during meal and recess hours, ensuring students follow school policies and expectations.
· Facilitate age-appropriate activities during indoor recess, monitoring independent free play time.
· The candidate will be able to create a positive and safe atmosphere in the cafeteria.
· Provide verbal/written communication to staff and teachers to document incidents and potential areas/behavior of concern.
· Assist with minor clean up during/after events.
· Model verbal/non-verbal behaviors for students to follow.
· Actively supervises indoor and outdoor activity including walking around the play area/cafeteria to observe many students at once.
· Ability to form and maintain positive relationships with children who may present with challenging behavior.
· Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Program Team Leader.
Minimum Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must be a U.S. citizen or resident or have work visas. In addition, they must demonstrate:
· Being a reliable, collaborative, and consistent colleague and teammate. This position plays a critical role in the school day and the experiences of our students. The right candidate will show up consistently on time with a positive attitude and readiness to engage with students and team members.
· Ability to demonstrate emotional maturity, patience, and a Warm Demander stance with students. This position will be expected to take a Warm Demander stance with students (both warm and firm) to ensure a fun, structured, and safe experience for them.
· Experience working with students in larger groups, and in louder, more informal environments. This position will frequently work with students in transition times of the day, which requires the ability to manage students in larger groups and in louder and less controlled environments.
·
Ability to show up as calm under pressure and to problem-solve or diffuse conflict in the moment as needed. This position will be working with students who may need them to solve problems or de-escalate them in challenging moments. For this role, we need someone who can keep themselves calm and seek solutions in the moment, instead of giving up.

Last Two Weeks of August, Monday-Friday 8:30-3:30pm (Time and Dates Subject to Change)
Month of September, Monday-Friday 10:30-1:30pm
Summer Hours Month of July, Monday-Friday: 11-3:00pm
Pay: $20/hr.
