JOB
Responsible for ensuring the safety of pool patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies. Lifeguards will recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations. Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
Complete records and reports.
Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
Exercise regularly to maintain fitness level (strength and endurance).
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:-
Possession of First Aid and American Red Cross certifications.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbent must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, evenings and different shifts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light to medium work that involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The work may require specific physical characteristic and abilities such as heightened strength, mobility, dexterity and full range of motion. Use of hands, arms, and legs and other motor skills used for swimming skills. Ability to sit and work long periods of time in varying degrees of weather. The following additional physical abilities are also required: manual dexterity, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity and walking.
UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT):
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

The work is generally performed in inside and outside environmental conditions and extremely hot and cold temperatures. Work involves administering first aid as necessary and is subject to the final standards of OSHA blood borne pathogens. Employee is subject to exposure to loud noise, bending, kneeling, walking on slippery surfaces, and squatting. Uses senses of vision, hearing and smell to diagnose problems.
