IEW Construction Group is seeking an experienced, hands-on Construction Controller to oversee the company's accounting and financial operations. This individual will play a critical role in providing accurate financial reporting, managing the accounting team, supporting operational decision-making, and ensuring strong internal controls across the organization.
The ideal candidate will have extensive construction accounting experience, including expertise in work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, job costing, revenue recognition, financial reporting, cash management, and compliance. This position reports directly to the COO and serves as a key financial partner to senior leadership and operations management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis

Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Manage month-end and year-end close processes.

Develop internal financial reports, job profitability analyses, and performance dashboards for management.

Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational performance.

Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting.
Construction Accounting & Project Financial Management

Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.

Oversee job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and revenue recognition.

Partner with project managers and operations leaders to monitor project financial performance and forecasting.

Participate in project management and operational review meetings.
Accounting Operations

Oversee all functions of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting.

Supervise and mentor accounting staff while ensuring accurate and timely processing of transactions.

Manage cash flow, working capital, and banking relationships.

Coordinate with external accountants for annual tax filings and financial statement preparation.
Compliance & Administration

Oversee payroll tax filings, union reporting, and benefit-related filings.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations.

Coordinate contractor prequalification packages, bonding requirements, and financial submissions.

Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures.
Leadership & Process Improvement

Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

Strengthen accounting workflows, reporting capabilities, and internal controls.

Serve as a trusted resource to senior leadership on financial and operational matters.

Support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and business growth initiatives.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

CPA designation preferred.

5+ years of Controller experience and 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.

Strong background in construction accounting required.

Experience with payroll tax compliance, union reporting, and contractor prequalification processes.

Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and financial controls.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Viewpoint or similar construction accounting software preferred.

Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Ability to operate independently while effectively collaborating with operations and executive leadership.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $125,000 – $170,000, based on experience and qualifications.
