The Opportunity:
Whittier Street Health Center is seeking an experienced Massachusetts-licensed dentist to join our team as a part-time Supervising Dentist / Clinical Mentor. This role serves as the clinical mentor and supervisor for foreign-trained dentists, dental residents, and students practicing within our community health center.
Working closely with the Director of Dental Services, you will ensure compliance with Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry (BORID) regulations while supporting the clinical development of limited license dentists. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician who is passionate about teaching, mentoring, and helping develop the next generation of dental providers serving diverse and underserved communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the designated clinical mentor and supervisor for foreign-trained dentists practicing under Massachusetts limited licenses.
- Review and approve complex treatment plans while ensuring safe, ethical, evidence-based dental care.
- Conduct chart audits, peer reviews, clinical competency assessments, and case discussions.
- Observe clinical procedures and provide coaching, guidance, and constructive feedback to support professional development.
- Assist with onboarding and training of foreign-trained dentists, including infection control, electronic health record workflows, and clinical policies.
- Ensure compliance with Massachusetts BORID regulations, OSHA standards, CDC infection control guidelines, and Department of Public Health requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety activities, and clinical performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Dental Services to maintain high standards of clinical quality, regulatory compliance, and culturally responsive care.
Qualifications:
- DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school.
- Active, unrestricted Massachusetts dental license.
- Current DEA registration (if prescribing controlled substances).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical dentistry experience, preferably in a community health or public health setting.
- Strong knowledge of Massachusetts BORID regulations governing limited license dentists.
- Experience mentoring, supervising, coaching, or teaching dentists, residents, or dental students strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical guidance, evaluate treatment plans, and support the development of dental professionals.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and coaching skills.
- Commitment to providing high-quality, culturally responsive care to underserved communities.
