Overview
We currently have an open position for School Nurse in Genesee County. This is an opportunity to do important work for students and families in an at-risk community still affected by the effects of the water crisis.
We are looking for a caring, compassionate and experienced professional who loves taking care of children and prioritizes communication and engagement. The position requires administrative work as well as one-on-one time with students; we are looking for an individual who truly cares about making school a better place for students. This includes educating students about healthy habits, as well as responding to any medical complaints at school and performing routine screenings.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Nursing Assessment of health problems, identifying health needs of students
- Initiates referrals to parents, school personnel, and community health resources for intervention, remediation, and follow through
- Case management of students with chronic health care needs and those needing emergency action plans, which may include treatment and coverage of diabetics, seizures, asthma, and severe allergic reactions, etc.
- Utilizes a method of tracking to maintain and document case management progress
- Helps school personnel recognize departures from appropriate behavior and growth patterns; helps students and staff adjust student programs when necessary to accommodate health needs of students.
- Supports the child education evaluation team process in developing health individualized educational plans (I.E.P.) and 504 plans, as the health specialist in the building, when healthcare needs are identified.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Associate degree in nursing will be considered, based on prior experience
- State of Michigan R.N. license required
- One year of experience working with children in a school or pediatric health setting preferred.
- Current BLS/CPR Certification
- Impeccable organization skills
- Able to establish rapport with students and their parents
