Schedule: Follows the Board Approved Calendar, works 200 days

Position Summary
The High School Attendance Secretary is responsible for maintaining accurate student attendance records and supporting school operations related to student accountability and safety. This position serves as a key point of contact for students, families, and staff regarding attendance matters and ensures compliance with district policies and state requirements. The Attendance Secretary plays a critical role in promoting student engagement and consistent school attendance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain accurate daily attendance records using the student information system.

Monitor, verify, and update absences, tardies, and early dismissals.

Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student absences and attendance concerns.

Process and record excused and unexcused absences in accordance with district policy.

Generate and distribute attendance reports for administrators, counselors, and teachers.

Notify administration and counselors of chronic absenteeism and attendance trends.

Assist with truancy processes, including letters, documentation, and follow-up communication.

Serve as the primary contact for attendance-related inquiries from staff, students, and families.

Collaborate with administration, counseling staff, and support teams to improve student attendance.

Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and district guidelines.

Assist with front office duties as needed, including answering phones and greeting visitors.

Support emergency procedures by maintaining accurate daily student attendance records.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Previous office or clerical experience preferred.

Bilingual preferred.

Experience in a school setting or with student information systems is highly desirable.
Working Conditions

Primarily office-based within a school environment.

Frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.

May require extended periods of sitting, computer use, and phone communication.
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policies and administrative guidelines.
