Position provides primary teacher with support by assisting students with daily lessons and other classroom program and activities .
Duties and Responsibilities;
- Provides assistance to teacher in the areas of planning, preparing and implementing the classroom program.
- Provides assistance in maintenance of classroom records.
- Implements individual, small group or large group lessons, planned in conjunction with the head teacher, and supervises independent or small group work.
- Implements one curriculum area of the classroom program; writes and implements weekly lessons plans that address each student's IEP goals and their individual learning needs; writes progress reports for each student on the area of curriculum being taught; and recommends goals and objectives for IEP.
- Provides observation and information on student performance during lessons and independent work.
- Provides ongoing behavioral management support in conjunction with the Teacher.
- Develops and writes anecdotal reports as needed.
- Provides assistance in the area of arranging and cleaning the classroom on a daily basis.
- Performs specified duties in the teacher's absence.
Qualifications
- High school Diploma, GED certificate required. Some college credits preferred.
- Working on or willing to start working on NYS certificate for Teacher Assistance.
- Prior related Classroom experience with children with special needs preferred.
