Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Director of Accounting to lead our accounting team with energy and precision. This pivotal role offers an exciting opportunity to oversee all financial reporting, compliance, and accounting operations within a diverse organization. Duties
- Lead the preparation and review of complex financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), and other relevant standards.
- Oversee all aspects of general ledger accounting, including account reconciliation, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
- Supervise cash management activities, including forecasting cash flow needs and optimizing liquidity strategies.
- Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) controls and regulatory reporting requirements for nonprofit or governmental entities.
- Oversee payroll processing using various accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar platforms.
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard assets and improve operational efficiency; conduct regular audits to verify compliance.
- Prepare detailed financial reports, analysis, and forecasts to support strategic decision-making by executive leadership.
- Lead efforts in technical accounting research related to complex transactions and new standards implementation.
- Collaborate with external auditors during audits; coordinate tax filings and regulatory submissions as needed.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting department by leveraging innovative financial software solutions.
Requirements
- Proven experience in advanced accounting functions within nonprofit, governmental, or corporate sectors; familiarity with public accounting is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance requirements, and regulatory reporting standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, account reconciliation, balance sheet management, and double-entry bookkeeping principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or equivalent financial management tools.
- Excellent understanding of technical accounting concepts including debits & credits, general ledger reconciliation, account analysis, and financial concepts.
- Experience managing accounts payable/receivable functions along with payroll processing.
- Ability to lead a team effectively while maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity in all work performed.
- Strong analytical skills combined with excellent written communication for financial report writing and presentation purposes.
- Knowledge of budgeting processes and forecasting techniques to support organizational planning efforts.
- Relevant certifications such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) are preferred but not mandatory. Pay: $160,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
